Fully Involved K9 Academy is proud to offer the VTG Tactical Canine Casualty Care course. As a lead instructor for VTG we can tailor the K9 medic training to meet the needs of your group.
Tactical Canine Casualty Care is an intensive, hands-on, scenario-based training course that covers management of the critically ill or injured working dog in the tactical environment, unstable or hostile situations. Based on the principles of human tactical medicine, adapting TCCC/TECC guidelines to the canine patient, this course accommodates the participant’s existing medical and tactical skillset and is appropriate for canine handlers and EMS personnel with small student-to-instructor ratio.
This two-day course covers:
- Treatment of gunshot, stabbing, and blunt trauma injuries
- Airway management, venous access, fluid therapy, needle decompression for tension pneumothorax
- Medical emergencies: Heat Injury, drug and explosive agent exposure, gastric dilation-volvulus (“bloat”)
- Legal aspects of EMS providing pre-hospital canine emergency care
- Case-based instruction based on actual canine casualty cases
VTG Instructors: VTG instructors are veterinarians, veterinary technicians, tactical medics, and canine handlers with years of experience in military and civilian law enforcement special operations canine and medical units. They share years of experience treating critically injured dogs in the tactical environment in this training to ensure this is not “just another canine first-aid class.”
